OK, I'm trying to do some research. I'm an avid fan of Yamaha, but sadly, they don't seem to be a good option right now considering they're moving away from making CDRW drives.
Anyway, the choice would have been between that or an Iomega 48x, but I'm wondering if you guys have any other sugestions I should consider. My machine does not have a USB 2.0 port (though I can get one) so I would preffer if the drive was Firewire (USB 2.0 drives are also considered). Also prefferably, 40x or higher, and if possible bellow the $200 mark.
Aside from that, anything you guys can tell me is appreciated.

Don't know why you think that Yamaha are moving away from re-writables. But anyway check out Toms review of the CRW-F1 drive from Yamaha that can burn images on to the bottom of CDs!

Just go to their website and see for yourself. It is available in USB2.0, Firewire, SCSI and IDE - what more choice could you want?

4.77MHz to 4.0GHz in 10 years. Imagine the space year 2020 :)

In February many sites had stories (like <A HREF="http://www.cdrtimes.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1155" target="_new">this one</A> and <A HREF="http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/5633" target="_new">this one</A>) reporting that Yamaha was leaving the CDRW market.

The official announcement is at Yamaha's Global site.

<b>99% is great, unless you are talking about system stability</b>

Lite-On has very good USB2.0 CDRW, and in fact Iomega drive is based on Lite-On dirve. Try to look into Lite-On website.

You never know how stupid you are until you have done something stupid enough for you to realize it.

or you could get something like <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=17-145-313" target="_new">this</A> and then use whatever burner you want. There's cheeper models, and newegg seems to cary a good range of products like this, just do a search for "enclosures"
