games are ruining my life and I need to remove them from my life completely.

I was just going to get rid of my computer all together, but I use it as a DAW for my music, work, etc...so forsaking technology completely Isn't really an option.

now I know any graphics card made will be able to play SOME games, even if they're just DOS games, so I know it's not possible to get a graphics card that plays 0 games, but I'm looking for something that hopefully wont run anything released in the last 10-15 years.

I specifically need something that will not run DOTA2, that is my biggest issue.

The other tricky part is my monitor is HDMI input, my eyes are not very good anymore(thanks video games) so the high resolution is a big help for me when recording and things.

Basically I want a GPU with HDMI output that does not have enough power to run DOTA2, the less power, less gaming capability & less features, the better.

If there is a GPU out there that maybe just doesn't run DirectX maybe that would work?

Solution
If you are really trying to limit yourself (or your PC) then you should find an old PCI graphics card if your motherboard has a PCI slot. You may find Trident, S3 or SIS based gfx chips on ebay. Windows could not even find the right driver for one of those cards but that's even better because you'll be further limited with the "Standard VGA Adapter" driver.

I kinda went to the extreme, i know.
Try using the motherboard HDMI output (if it has one). It seems pretty low to me, most games that require graphics are bad on it. The only games I could possibly play are the ones made at atleast 2001, (ooooh Chirs Sawyer, greatest tycoon maker.)

Wow thats a very serious step. Things must be bad! The only thing I can suggest is simply use your onboard VGA and buy a VGA to HDMI converter:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Patuoxun%C2%AE-Adapter-Power-Free-Raspberry-support/dp/B00F6RZZMU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1422025255&sr=1-1&keywords=vga+to+hdmi

You won't be able to play much past browser games or old DOSbox abandonware on the onboard VGA.

Why not just ask the admins to ban you from DOTA2? Or break the rules or something to get permabanned.

Also I've tried getting myself banned before.....I just go and open a new account the next day.... I need something that will basically physically restrain me.

when you google "cheap HDMI graphics cards" it brings you results on "budget performance cards" which is what 99.99% of people looking for a "cheap HDMI graphics card" want. They are looking to get the most bang for their buck, therefor those are the results google will return. If you bothered reading my post you would know I'm looking for the exact opposite of what 99.99% of people who google "cheap HDMI cards" are looking for. I am not looking for bang for my buck, I'm looking for a potato capabale of driving my display

Woady,
would you be interested in moving onto a AM1 platform or even worse a G41 based LGA775 build? The former would be excellent for a work environment but lousy as a gaming machine - however upon a little bit of reading you can play DOTA 2 on the lowest of settings on the AM1 platform.

Thanks for the info,

I'm already loosing money by pawning my GTX770, hoping I don't have to spend more on new MOBO/CPU

I'm running an AMD-FX8350 currently, will have to check on the MOBO

The AM1 if it can run DOTA2 on the lowest settings would not be a good choice for me, I will look more into the G41 solution you suggested

If there is onboard GPU you may be tempted to run DOTA2 again!! Have you thought about trading your desktop for a Laptop? Most of them are terribad for gaming, and you could get a decent USB soundcard for the DAW.

The G41(and the LGA775 platform) is very old...about 5 years and that can be had with both processor and board for around $100 on ebay but as I said it may be too old for what you're doing.

The issue would be the AMD FX-8350 since that will allow you to put in any high end GPU and not break a sweat. In terms of compute power I think your music editing/production will require a capable processor for horsepower(that will also vary upon what software you're using).

I'm not familiar with USB powered display adapters but that could be one option open to you at this point since I'm assuming a downgrade to a LGA775 might end up costly and futile to go down.

I should also mention in addition to video game addiction, I'm also suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and have racked up over $4,000 in credit card debt.

When the computer is gone, I am handing over all of my personal finances to my parents for them to handle for me......at 26 years old, I can't say I'm very proud of the fact I have to go down this road.

With that said, I'm not overly concerned with "relapsing" and running out to buy a new GPU as I will have to run all purchases past my parents first, before they give me my money, and I have to bring them back receipts for everything I buy to make sure I don't spend it on drugs and games.

I'm trying really hard to get a fresh start in life, the gaming thing is a small part of that strategy. I know I will be spending a lot of this time writing music for myself to try and help me through which is why it's really important I keep my DAW capabilities....

Sorry to hear about your ongoing problems.

Music production is definitely a good thing. It takes up loads of your time, and gives you a good creative outlet too, which can help with your total self satisfaction and wellbeing. Get yourself signed up to Soundcloud, you will find a great community of like-minded people on there. Keep your chin up! 😉

Addiction is not a easy thing to deal with I wish you nothing but the best of luck. For the video card I would go with the cheapest hdmi card you can find or run onboard.

Looking at the benchmarks of this card it is utter crap! great find!

You know, the steps you've taken thus far are a good sign that you're looking for a change. The first step is always the hardest but know that maintaining that path isn't as hard as the first step though it will take some patience and mental strength. Good Luck on that matter bud! :)

Regarding your GPU, the USB device would be a no-no since you will loose out on BIOS functionality but the GT210 may be a little hard to find. I scoped out DOTA 2's minimum sys req's and you'll need at least a 8600GT so I'd advise for a GT520 at the most.
