games are ruining my life and I need to remove them from my life completely.

I was just going to get rid of my computer all together, but I use it as a DAW for my music, work, etc...so forsaking technology completely Isn't really an option.

now I know any graphics card made will be able to play SOME games, even if they're just DOS games, so I know it's not possible to get a graphics card that plays 0 games, but I'm looking for something that hopefully wont run anything released in the last 10-15 years.

I specifically need something that will not run DOTA2, that is my biggest issue.

The other tricky part is my monitor is HDMI input, my eyes are not very good anymore(thanks video games) so the high resolution is a big help for me when recording and things.

Basically I want a GPU with HDMI output that does not have enough power to run DOTA2, the less power, less gaming capability & less features, the better.

If there is a GPU out there that maybe just doesn't run DirectX maybe that would work?

If you are really trying to limit yourself (or your PC) then you should find an old PCI graphics card if your motherboard has a PCI slot. You may find Trident, S3 or SIS based gfx chips on ebay. Windows could not even find the right driver for one of those cards but that's even better because you'll be further limited with the "Standard VGA Adapter" driver.

I kinda went to the extreme, i know.
The absolute worst card I can think of is the GeForce 6200. Its pretty much the yugo of graphics cards. You can buy them new for 42$ or used for 20$. Just pick up a dvi to hdmi adapter. If you must have a hdmi port on the card, go for the 8400 gs.

Explored that option, unfortunately no USB on the tablet, which is what I require for my MIDI instruments, also my 8-channel recorder for analog instruments is USB output.

I know they do sell things that connect to the iPad port instead of typical USB, but with all of the debt I have wracked up in the process of ruining my life I unfortunately don't have any money to buy one at this time. In the future when things are better for me, this looks like it could be a good option for me.

If I could get an iPad with USB, that would be great.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I know we're just internet strangers, but being around positive people means a lot to me at this stage. It's very easy for someone to try and troll me for a cheap laugh (because that's the internet for you) so I really truly appreciate everyone trying to be so helpful.

it's 4:45pm on a Friday here, as soon as it's 5pm and my shift is done, I'm leaving the province so I'll be 500km away from the nearest drug dealer I know of until Monday. I won't be able to check back or reply to anyone during that time, but I'll be sure to follow up on Monday, I really appreciate everyone's help and don't want anyone to think I ignored their post, I'm just running out of time before I have to leave

thanks again!

Yeah a lot of the new studio softwear is syncing up nicely with IPADS.

Hey Woady9, I have experience with addiction too. Quit drinking back in November and its the best choice I could've made. A new world of opportunities is opening up for me that I never could see when I wasn't sober.

As for the graphics card, I'd recommend to go with the integrated graphics and get an HDMI adapter if your motherboard only supports DVI. This adapter would also work well if you find a low end GPU with only DVI support. I've used this configuration in the past and it's a high quality connection. PM me with your address if you'd like me to send you an DVI-HDMI adapter I have no more use for. I'd be glad to help out a friend in need.

The road to beating addiction is not ready and is something I deal with everyday. I find that helping others whether it's through kind words or volunteering my time helps keep me busy and out of trouble. Hang in there!

Had to get rid of my build too.. I downgraded to a Pentium 4... gaming was keeping me from studying for university. I couldn't just control it.. I understand you, man.. the thing is I can't get rid of technology either... I'm studying computer science, so...😛 I know it sounds funny, but I had to find a viable solution. I would downgrade even more if it wasn't for compatibility issues with even older tech and older os's than win xp...

Look at Toms Old Graphics Cards charts. Look at the ones at the bottom, and check and see which ones have the output you want. DVI can be converted to HDMI - but often will lose the audio.

Keep in mind that awesome graphics cards are not just for graphics - for some tasks the GPU is orders of magnitude faster than the CPU - and the workload is offloaded to the GPU even though it has nothing to do with graphics.

You will be screwed if you are using an application that uses the GPU for calculations.
