Hi. I did leave out DVD and memory. Hope I did understand this correctly. Also operating system you need 7 PRO or 8PRO (64Bit)
I think you better have 16GB ram because you do music production. And sound card is maybe needed. With this someone expert can advice you. (hope)

Yeah I have 32gb of RAM so everything's already taken care of for that. I forgot to mention that already have a videocard so we could bring down the total to $816. Also, a really good external soundcard is a must.

What kind of monitors are you playing through? You will need something like an external audio interface, preferably with balanced connections. If you have a sub than you will also need a crossover. I wouldn't use any kind of internal sound cards for audio production.

Yeah I agree - new CPUs and the Radeon 8XXX series will be out by then. If you want the next variation of NVIDIA GPUs though you'll be waiting until at least June 2014.

Right now I'm just using headphones but I'm looking to get two sets of good studio monitors after I build this PC. Yeah, I definitely don't want any internal sound cards.

Cases, power supplies, hard drives, and optical - these things won't change much, if at all. What will are the motherboards, GPUs, CPUs, and SSDs.

Buying stuff in advance can be risky. On multiple occasions, I've gotten a good deal on a case or a power supply to use for a future build, but then looking at them, I get excited within a week or two and I accidentally find myself building the whole thing.

You'll get no argument from me there. I definitely agree. Safe purchases right now though are cases, hard drives, and optical drives. Optical drives won't change at all, and neither will mechanical HDs.
