[SOLVED] Looking to clone my HDD with Windows 10 onto a Samsung EVO Pro 256 gb

So I've heard a lot of people say cloning Windows 10 OS onto these samsung evo's creates a problem where the BIOS either cant detect the SSD or it doesn't recognize it as a boot drive. What's the best way of going about cloning everything over?

I currently have macrium reflect installed in preperation. I'm not using a USB adapter, just hooking it up to the MOBO.

Gateway DX4860
-I cant find the rest of the model number anywhere in the settings or on the console, I'm assuming it's a DX4860-UR21P with an Intel H67 Express but I could be wrong.

Definitely know:
-Intel i7 2600 3.4 GHz
-250W standard power supply
-Upgraded 16 gb Corsair Vengeance RAM 1600
-Intel graphics card
-1tb random laptop hard drive I got from my friend (hence why I want to switch everything over, other than speed)
--There is only 150 gb of data to. move to the SSD

I might have left out some information so just let me know if you need to know anything else.

Solution

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is...

Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe all partitions on it.
This will probably require the commandline diskpart function, and the clean command.

Ask questions if anything is unclear.

Love these instructions. But just to clarify are you saying that this SSD should be compatible with my motherboard?

Unless you already own that drive, don't.
There are newer, cheaper ones to be had.

Samsung 860 EVO, 500GB, $80
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0781Z7Y3S

Crucial MX500, 500GB, $65
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-500GB-NAND-Internal/dp/B0784SLQM6

Alright even though I already have the pro I went ahead and set up a return and ordered the regular evo 500 gb since I got free same day shipping (hell yeah Amazon) and it will arrive at the same time as the SATA cable I ordered

Thank you for your help

Download Belarc Advisor (free) and run it. It should show the model number of your machine.
