I am looking to optimize the air flow and temperatures of the internals in my computer. more importantly, i would like my gpu temperatures to drop as i am not comfortable with where it is currently. i am using a 980ti Zotac Amp edition with a i5 6600k. my 980ti heats up to about 83c on full load. i do not want the temperature to go over 75c however because this will likely degrade the overall life of the card. anyways, i am currently using a corsair 200r case which comes with 2 fans (1 on the front, 1 on the back). i bought a top of the line 140mml fan (venturi HF-14) but i am not sure where to put it. also, i am not really sure if it will really help me get my intended gfx temperatures. i was thinking of putting it on the side of the case blowing directly on the side of the gfx. would this be adequate to lower my temperatures nearly 8c? or do i need an additional fan placed on the top of the case in order to get around 75c under load? any suggestions are appreciated

additional note: i cannot replace the front or back fan with this new one because it wont fit, the top, bottom and side slots however are adequate.

Solution

as a general rule you want front, bottom, and side fans blowing air in

top, and back fans blowing air out

adding a side fan directly on the gpu would help a lot
