Looking to upgrade GPU

Hey there,

I'm currently using PowerColor Radeon 7870 Myst edition card in a crossfire setup, I've only had the cards for about a year now. I'm looking to upgrade come the holidays this year. I'm mainly looking at AMD cards, and I was wondering what would be a good upgrade? I'm probably going with 1 GPU this time around.

I'd highly highly recommend the GTX 970, it's pretty much equal to a r9 290X but consumes far less energy and has more features.

I appreciate the response, however I'm mainly shooting for an AMD card. Would I have to venture into the 290 series, in order to get an upgrade over 2 7870s?

R9 290 or R9 295x would be the only single cards I would think would be a good upgrade.

i still say get the gtx 970 it's a beast and has direct x 12 features. and great value. but if you stick with team red...prollly the r9 290x or the 290.

The R9 290 is pretty close to both cards in most other games as well and $50 to $75 cheaper. From what I see the big benefit for the 970 GTX over the R9 290X besides slightly higher fps in most titles is the 2x lower TDP.

290x and 295x are great.. the tempratures are the only concern.... i suggest to wait for the r9 300 series coming in the summer... they are cheaper and much powerful than the nvidia 900 series

Then nvidia will have it's GTX 1070 which will be faster then amd and AMD will have their r9 400 series that will be faster etc etc.

However, i'm curious as to what AMD has in store for this summer.

there will be a lot of big titles releasing mantle api in games.. which currently works for AMD.. they will also have drastic price cuts and cheap game bundles for amd games like gta 5,alien isolation,sid myers civilization etc
