Looking to upgrade Graphics card

Hi, I've got a pc that I use mainly for graphics work, mainly using photoshop CC 2018 and Indesign as well as the occasional 3D modeling but also use it for gaming, usually heavily modded ones like Skyrim.
My current setup is Win7, i7 4930K, 64gb ram, Asus X79 deluxe mobo, GTX 660, 850w psu and 1tb SSD. My problem is I really want to upgrade my graphics card as it was originally purchased as a temporary gpu, nothing more but not sure what card would be better with the new nvidia cards.

Would it be better to look on ebay for a 980ti or upgrade to a newer card? I like the idea of a 1080 or 1080ti but no idea if it would be compatible with my current hardware?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you list the full specs of the psu please (just making sure it's good).
Unless you can find a gtx 980ti on ebay under 300$ it's not really worth it.
The 4930k can easily handle a 1080.

It was a pretty high end one when i was building the pc but here are the specs https://seasonic.com/product/x-850/ the only difference i can see with my one is the maximum load is 70A instead of 71A.
Thanks for the answers so far everyone

My next question then is which gpu is best out of the Gigabyte 1080ti AORUS 11GB 1594MHz base clock with a 1708MHz boost, MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X 11GB 1569MHz base clock with a 1683MHz boost or the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB 1518MHz base clock with a 1632MHz boost. Here in Australia the Gigabyte is $1099, MSi $1199 and the Asus is $1249. I've always been a traditional Asus buyer, my mobo and current gpu being an Asus but I feel in this case I'm paying extra just for the ROG brand.
