I NOW HAVE Western Digital WD Green WD20EARS 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare that is 4.6 years old.
I am looking at Seagate Hybrid Drive ST1000DX001 1TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/sNCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD , as i have not restored pc in 4.6 years, want to do so prior to pushing win 10.
#1 is that even worth spending the money, should I notice performance improvement?

#2 Is there a WD HDD that will out perform the above seagate for under $100. I would say i need 750 gig minimum for primary drive. SDD is way out of the question. I can wait a minute.

#3 Is that a technology more likely to fail, besides the point that seagate has bad rep for failing hdds?
Any input would be appreciated!

The WD Green drive is only 5900 rpm...
The SSHD drives only offer a minor performance bump and are just not worth it.

I would get the 1TB now, and save up a little more and get an SSD drive.
Sandisk drives are ok, but any of the other cheaper drives are cheap/on sale for a reason.
If you watch amazon they have the 850 evo on sale from time to time. I picked one up for $56 one time.

ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard . i do not think so. My main question was, will I see noticeable hdd performance booost with the seagate mentioned above. and is there anything comperable to it, as I can get it for $60 right now,
All good advice, thanks.

thanks for response!
My main question was, will I see noticeable hdd performance booost with the seagate mentioned above over my current wd green. Is there any other comparable drive out there. I can pay $60 for it now,
Yes, when I can get a 1 tb sdd for $100, no brainer, but that is a ways away. There are many things to save for in life.

The WD Green drive is only 5900 rpm drive and is slower then even a 7200 rpm hard drive (about 80MBPS for green serries, 110 MBPS for 7200rpm drive).

You dont have to get a 1tb SSD drive, the vast majority of us have 120 or 250gb SSD drive and use the hard drive for backups and large storage.
You can get a 120 GB crucial BX100 for $65, a western digital blue (7200 rpm) 1tb drive for $50 and that only puts you $15 over budget. This combination will be night and day faster the an sshd.
You need an SSD for OS and for programs. Putting things like music or movies on a hard drive does not slow it down any because it only needs to be as fast as the bitrate of the file (even uncompressed 4k is only 15-20% of the hard drives max speed).

I ended up getting the SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-75E500B/AM 2.5" 500GB SATA III 3-D any way. I paid 166 with a bracket. The promo code EMCAWNA28 from newegg was in my inbox as soon as I read the thread from boosted. Looking at half a decade of reliable, quiet, low energy, and super fast, (even with sata 2 mobo for now). It is surely going to prove to be a good time saving investment. I wanted at least 700 gig for primary, but 500 is a good compromise for hoarder like me. I can keep filling my green drive with media, and keep a little less programs and games on the SSD. But now I want to go and swap mobo, and cpu, which are now bottlenecking gpu and sdd. Always a can of worms. It would have helped if I had time to research things before I asked questions here, but hopefully info miight help someone else. Thanks so much guys.

The Evo 850 was well worth the extra cash. I feel that I have already paid off my investment after restoration, adding programs, and windows upgrade........ Everything is so much faster. I also power down much more due to fast startup and usage. Besides the point, I got a refurbished roku stick for streaming. That all should surely save pc life and electric bill,
Much thanks to you, and all others that take time to help others!
