Looking to upgrade part by part for gaming

I built this desktop in 2010, and haven't upgraded anything since. I'm soon to graduate college now, and want to get back into gaming. I have realized that my rig just cant hold and am having some problems in game while also not being able to play some that I want to. So I want to upgrade some parts, my rig is as follows

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz 4 Core
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 440
Motherboard: ASUSTeK- Rampage fourmula 3 PCI-E
Memory Type: 2: CRUCIAL-DDR3
Memory Size: 4 GBytes total
Power Supply: COOLMASTER 500
Case: ANTEC 300 orginal
Storage: WD Carvier Blue 500GB
OS: Windows 7 32-bit operating system(going to upgrade when I can but want my parts upgraded first)

Now I have upgrade part by part, so I need my computer to be playable while I do it. But i also have no problem of spending the money needed to make a decent rig in the long term. Any advice and help is greatly appreciated, and if you need more info about my rig please let me know.

I would say you need an entirely new rig.

Yeah, definitely time for a new build. Aside from the HDD, there's not really much that can be salvaged from that build, & even then I would only use a 500GB HDD as a secondary drive nowadays.
