Current PC:
FX 6300
gtx 960 ftw 2gb
msi gaming 970 motherboard
gskill sniper 8gb ddr3 1866
evga 600b psu
cryorig r1 ultimate cpu fan
7200 rpm hdd
corsair 750d

I was looking to upgrade the cpu and motherboard and I know ill have to get new ram too, I'm not trying to spend too much but I do want something quite a bit better that will last a while before the next upgrade. I was between the ryzen 5 1600x/ ryzen 7 1700/ i5 7600k /i7 7700k still not really sure if the extra ~50 bucks is worth paying to get an r7 or i7 or if the 1600x is better than the i5. What do you think is the best value here and what kind of ram/motherboard combo should I get with it?

Again I'm not trying to spend a whole lot but if it's worth it I will. Not really playing any demanding games either just things like pubg, supreme commander forged alliance(if anyone even knows what that is) and other possibly new games here and there.

Solution

If you want to save some money, you can replace 1600 with 1200 for ~$100 less. 1600 comes with a decent cooler and is easily OCed to 1600X. 1700 has 8 cores which are not utilized in any games yet. 6 core 1600 is best bang for the money. If you have extra to spend, get 16gb ram as well.

Solution
for the best upgrade for the money is ryzen. the cpu slot going to be around a bit so you have cpu to drop in latter if needed. intel now have been forcing people to buy new mb with every new cpu that dropped. people that just got the z270 mb can run coffee lake cpu even though they fit in the same mb slots.

I could see it saving me some money but I would rather keep my current tower, I have an extra half built pc sitting around anyway so the old parts are not going to waste, I'm going to use them to build the other pc
