Hi all,

I currently have the below config. Its about 4 yrs old (except for the GPU which I updated last november and the PSU in APRIL). I started to get a few issues related to hardware in the past few months (BSOD). Performance wise its doing quite ok. Taking into consideration the late issues I got, I reckon its time to upgrade.

Current :

PSU : 550W Toughpower 550W GOLD Thermaltake
CPU : I7 2600
GPU : R9 280x
RAM : 1333 (8gb)
HD : 500gb

Looking to upgrade to :

PSU : same one
CPU : i5 6600k
Motherboard : GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5
GPU : same one
RAM : 8gb ddr4 3000
HD : PCI SDD

Should I go for it or something else? or should I stick with my current config and wait for lower prices or newer / future tech?

Thanks a lot guys

Personally, I think you would save money on getting a standard SSD, like a Samsung evo (500GB) and an HDD to pair with it over a PCI-E SSD. The PCI-E card is going to be double the price of a normal SSD and while "cool" I think at this time it's a waste.

If you have the money and are certain it will help, then go for it. If you'd like, wait till the BlackFriday/Cyber Monday weekend later this month and see if you can't snag a deal or a rebate on some of the parts you're looking for.

If you wait for future tech, you will wait forever.
If you have a need now, buy now.

I never seem to find exactly what I want on black Friday sales.

I think your plan is reasonable.

You are likely to be able to boot using your HDD If successful, you only need to install the new motherboard drivers.
I suggest you buy a Samsung ssd of sufficient capacity to hold the contents of your hard drive excepting large folders such as videos.

You can buy a 950 pro m.2 device or a conventional ssd. Either will be a impressive upgrade in performance.
Use the Samsung ssd migration tool to copy over your current windows to the new ssd.

Also, look for low latency 1.2v DDR4 ram. Faster speeds are not helpful.
