Hello,

I'm looking into buying a 1440p 144Hz G-SYNC monitor to replace one of my 1080p 60Hz monitors for gaming. Currently, I have two 1080p60 monitors, one of which is 5 years old and needs to go.

Here is my setup right now:
ASUS Z97-AR LGA1150 Motherboard
i5 4690k OC'd to 4.0GHz + Cooler Master LED 212
ASUS Dual-Fan GTX 1060 3GB OC'd to 1805MHz
16GB (2x8) 1600MHz DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Memory
Corsair RM750 PSU

So I have a few questions:
What GPU should I upgrade to? Should I wait for Volta?
Would anything bottleneck a newer GPU if I were to get one?
I know 144Hz is very noticable from 60Hz (I tried my friend's once). But is 1440p very noticable from 1080p? Should I just get a 1080p 144Hz? For reference, I sit about 2.5 feet away from my monitor.

I would wait for Volta as it will bring prices down of current GPU's, not to mention the influx of used ones. Also you may want to get something a little newer depending on your budget.

Nothing else should bottleneck a newer GPU, maybe on some games your CPU may bottleneck due to lack of cores but it's not a huge issue now, and will usually be optimised/ CPU intensive games e.g Arma.

Currently 1440p is the sort of "sweet spot" were most new GPU's can run it a high frame rate while not being to expensive and having a noticeable improvement over 1080p.

Remember you can always turn the resolution and graphics settings down accordingly to get the FPS to Quality ratio you desire with 1440p.

Thanks a ton. Also, should I get a Volta GPU or just get a high-end Pascal at a lower price? Which Volta GPU do you think would be capable of 1440p144Hz? I'm thinking at least the '70. Lol I know details weren't released yet so I'm just speculating now so forgive me haha. As for my budget for my GPU I'm selling my old monitor, gtx 1060, gtx 960, Elgato game capture and my ps4, which should rack me in about $500.

that should rack you in a good bit over 500 lol
