I've been looking to upgrade my old X4 cpu, and ryzen is looking like the best choice. I was considering an R7 1700, however im only looking to game at 1080p ultra on games like Nier Automata and PUBG, and I don't have the money to buy anything better than my 1050ti. Is a R3 or 5 good enough to pair with this gpu for 1080p gaming?

Also, will my current Hyper 212 evo work on the AM4 socket or will i need to use the Wraith cooler? Thanks

A 1300x oced to 3.8/3.9 should easily max out a 1050ti at max settings. If your budget allows a r5 1600 would be a good step up if you might upgrade your gpu down the road
A balanced gamer will budget about 2x the cost of the cpu for the graphics card.

If you are looking at upgrading to a $160 GTX1050ti, I suggest you do that first and see how you do.
Then, decide if you need a cpu upgrade.

My guess is that a X4 of some sort will have a passmark rating of 4000 with a single thread rating of 1100.
The single thread rating is the important one for most games.

If you need a cpu upgrade, look more to a cpu budget in the $80 range like the $80 G4600; passmark rating 5453/2074

Only when you start using top end GTX1080ti cards does the cpu performance become the limiting factor.
