looking to upgrade with additional 8gb ram

Solution
Since your motherboard only has 2 slots, check if you have a single RAM stick of 4GB or 2x2GB sticks. If you have one, then just add the 8GB stick and it will work fine. If you have 2, you'll have to remove one and you'll end up with 10GB of RAM instead of 12. However, if you plan to keep the memory you already have, you'll need to make sure that the new 8GB stick is the same frequency as the old one. According to the motherboard's specs, you should have a 1066 or 1333MHz module, so check the label and get one that's the same.

CircuitDaemon is correct...
BUT if I were in your shoes, I would either buy a matched pair of 4GB modules (known as an 8Gb kit), or a pair of 8Gb modules (16GB kit).
They are sold as kits because they work better together. They are not very expensive. You will probably end up with faster memory than your original 4GB too.

You could then sell your old memory on Ebay
