Wondering if anyone could throw out suggestions as to what I should upgrade in my current PC. I'm looking to run games like Fallout 4, Witcher 3, MGSV at a steady 60FPS. Right now as it stands here are my current specs;

Case: RAIDMAX Horus ATX Mid-Tower

CPU: AMD FX-6300 CPU (6x 3.50GHz/6MB L2 Cache)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P -- AMD 970

Memory: DDR3-1866 G.SKILL RipjawsX 16GB

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 270X 2G ITX

PSU: High Power Standard 700W

CPU Cooling: Asetek 510LC 120mm Liquid CPU Cooler [AMD] - Standard 120mm Fan

SSD: 120GB Kingston V300 SSD

HDD: WD Black 1TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD1003FZEX

I was looking to upgrade the CPU to a FX 8350 and the GPU to an MSI GTX 970. Wondering if I do switch those parts, would everything be compatible still? Otherwise if there is anything else I can improve on I would love to know. Thanks!

For the gpu you could choose between the r9 390 and 970, they perform pretty much equally and the vram difference wont make much difference at 1080p.

Then fir the motherboard this should do the trick, it's ddr3 compatible so you don't need new RAM.

And then for the cpu

You could get a slightly faster cpu but I thought I would try and keep it as far in budget as possible.

Just to note as you were saying about just changing the cpu to an i5, it wouldn't be compatible because it's a different...

If under budget the 8320 will serve your well. Your usually safe buying used processors and this one shouldn't be more then 100 bucks. If your staying at 1080p a 290 or 290x (4gb) will do you just fine for 1080p. I have the 390x and that runs 4K for only $330. I keep my old card and my oc 280x vapor does fallout 4 at 1080p at 65 frames. It's really up to you though. I'm not a big fan of gtx parts and I'm not familiar with them so I can't recommend any of them.

I really don't suggest upgrading to an 8320, it's so old at this point and to be honest you wont see that much of a performance gain in games. I would say that the money would be better spent on getting an i5, what is your total budget to spend?

In terms of budget, I'm looking around 500 dollars in upgrades. Also would an i5 even be compatible with my current MOBO? (Sorry not that experienced with computer parts)

Just to note as you were saying about just changing the cpu to an i5, it wouldn't be compatible because it's a different socket. If you want to change the cpu you have to look at the socket(eg LGA 1151 for skylake or AM3/+ for vishara(your current cpu)) and get a motherboard with a compatible socket.
