Hi,
I have an external Hard disk whose partition has got corrupted or got lost. I have not tried to either format the disk or change the partition type anytime in the past. I am using Linux and in the dmesg I get the following error

Code:
Read(10): 28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 08 00
end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, logical block 0
Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 0
sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Unhandled sense code
sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc]
Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc]
Sense Key : Medium Error [current]

I cannot mount the drive. It is listed in lsusb command as well as lsblk command. In lsblk command it is listed without any partition.

How do I repair the partition on this external hard disk. I need to recover data from it and this drive has some crucial data which I need.

Solution
Looks like the usb to sata controller/interface board is having a problem. If its out of warranty you can try to remove the drive from the case and install it into another one. If, when the drive is out, you find that is not a normal sata drive then let us know.

This usually works well on drives under 3TB in size. Interface board for these larger drives often do different 'tricks' to make the drives compatible with various system so may or may not work in a different enclosure,
