Hi,
I have a home network set up where the cable mode/router provided by Comcast (Arris TG862G) is connected to a Dell 2716 switch, which is then wired to every room in the house. The Comcast router is in the basement and I want to set up wifi in the second floor in my house. My internet connection is supposed to be 100 mbps.
In order to get wifi in the second floor, I am connecting a wireless router (Linksys E2500) to one of the ethernet outlets in the second floor that is wired to the switch. I am able to connect to the internet, but the speed I get from the E2500 router is significantly slower than what my speed should be. When I do a wired connection to it and run a speed test, I only get around 20 mbps. If I unplug the router and plug the computer directly to the ethernet outlet, I get the full 100 mbps. So far I have tried the following connections:
Computer to Arris TCG862G cable modem/router - I get 100 mbps+
Wifi to Arris TCG862G - I get around 80-90 mbps
Computer to Linksys E2500 to Arris TCG862G - I get around 100 mbps
Wifi to Linksys E2500 to Arris TCG862G - I get around 70-80 mbps
Computer to switch to Arris TCG826G - I get 100 mbps+
Computer to Linksys E2500 to switch to Arris TCG826G - I get around 20 mbps
Wifi to Linksys E2500 to switch to Arris TCG826G - I get around 9-10 mbps
I have tried setting up the Linksys router both as a bridge and with DHCP enabled but the results don't change. Does anybody have an idea of what could be wrong or how to troubleshoot the issue? I don't really know where to go from here. Thanks!
