Ummmmmm... Help!
I have another system I'm working on @ home, however... silly me put on a password on the BIOS(CMOS) setup and I haven't tinkered with it for a while and I need to check settings in there! So now what? Here's the info I got from the post...
Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
Intel 430VX PCI-ISA BIOS
Plug & Pray (I mean Play) Extension VL.0A
Motherboard: 10/24/96-1430VX,UMC8669-2A59GG0AC00

Okay? I hope this is all the info U need, i hope someone can help me, and don't tell me to go to the Award site!
"been there, done that, came here"
So I hope I can get a lil piece of software or something to bypass or grab the password on the cmos and let me in b4 I nuke the crazy thing <Evil Grin>
If not... thanks for trying anyway guys & gals!
I hope by next week, I'll have myself a new P3 800 system with 128 MB of kick butt RAM! and the system I'm using now will replace the system I lost the password on, however...
that system will be recycled to a better place! <Much more Evil Grin> j/k
Anyway... I think I yakked enuff 4 now.

ttyl folks,
James :)

p.s. if U or U know someone who is getting rid of computer equip or doing upgrades, let me know, the place i work @ accepts donations of computers, and parts, etc.
Thanks y'all :)

There should be a jumper or switch on the motherboard that will clear the password, or bypass it. Then you just boot up and go on your way. Have a look at your motherboard manual (or download it from the mfr website or just look at the board itself for indicative labels). If not...I don't know what to tell you.

some boards have a jumper which reset the bios if u dont pull the cmos battery out for about 60 secs then put it back in it will reset your bios BE CARFULL THE PLASTIC HINGES ARE SOME TIMES DELICATE DONT BE ROUGH WHEN PULLING IT OUT and KNOW BUY DOING THAT U WILL RESET YOUR BIOS AND YOUR SETTING WILL GO TO FACTORY DEFAULT!!!!!!!!!! which isnt bad but u will have to redo any previous settings

hey i got a question about bios/battery. since i've had this board i've updated the bios was rev. 2.1 now 3.1 if i go and replace the battery will the bios go back down to 2.1? or just defaults at 3.1? thanks. theres a way either with the jumper on the mobo or it's like insert or insert+del key on startup? your manual will definitely have something in there though about it.

CPUs are like testicles, every computer should have 2!

No the bios upgrade stil works. that pard of the bios is put on the ROM (read only memory). Only the settings that you can change easely are gone like the memory delay settings / boot settings and that kind of things.
if you dont have a removebol battery and there is no bios_clear jumper you can pul out the bios itself and whait for a minute, but this is realy the last option if everything else fails.

ya know, it's amazing what results U get when U post stuff on boards like this, and even more amazing when U ask Techie co-workers for help with technical problems...
So Re: my password problem, I gave the same info to my co-worker and he found a solution on the net in 5 mins.
So what's the solution U ask for lost passwords on Award BIOS chips? Easy... I tried this on 2 Award BIOS and it works wonders and even on bootUp passwords. So Write this down folks and keep it for future reference... type in as U see this... AWARD_SW
and it works wonders!!! So pass it on friends!

Yours truly,
James :)
