Lost colors in hp scan

Hello,

The preview shows more colors than the actual scan.

For example, the boy I'm scanning now shows up in the preview window
with black hair and he is standing against a dark blue wall.

But when I scan him the tiff doesn't have these colors. What was dark
blue becomes:
R: 0
G: 0
B: 0
In other words, completely black. The boundary between his hair and the
wall is lost.

If the preview shows a different shade for the wall, I know the ccd
array is picking it up. Why does HP flush this data down the toilet when
it does the actual scan?

Rats. After 6 days still no response. Will take this group off my
newsreader. If anyone knows how to get all the colors in my hp scan,
please e-mail me at the reply-to address minus the obvious spam block.

Well, maybe it would help to supply more information. Which scanner? Which
scanning software? Which operating system? Depending on the scanning software,
there are adjustments which can be made to change various scanner settings.
