I had my phone connected to the PC to copy some pictures over I took earlier, first I wanted to move them to a separate folder on the sd card in the phone, I done this from within file explorer on the PC but as I moved the pictures to the new folder they just disappeared and are not in the newly created folder. I have never had this happen before, I can't see how they could be mistakenly moved to another folder as there aren't any. Anyone have any idea what's happened here? Can I get them back with a program? One that's known to work!

Solution
Recuva & similar recovery software cannot access memory cards whilst they are still inside the phone.
You have to put the SD card in to a card reader plugged in to your PC.

As for your phone's built-in storage, Recuva can't access that under any circumstances.

Right thanks for that. It's the SD card that the pictures have disappeared from. I haven't had any trouble moving files around on this card before, I'm concerned now that if tried to back the SD card up files could go missing like this when copying. Have you any idea why files might disappear while moving them to a new folder? What's the chances of Recuva recovering these? I have not written to card at all since.

Nice, so Recuva recovered almost most of those pictures I lost straight away just on the simple scan. Some were only partially recovered but they were multiple pics of the some thing so not so bad.
