Lost start menu

Hi everyone, I need help please. I have an ASUS Essentio running Win 7. I have setup a Flat Screen TV as a monitor via HDMI. All was working fine when suddenly I have no start menu or taskbar and the windows key doesn't work either. If I switch from HDMI to VGA everything works fine, when I switch back to HDMI, no icons on the screen. I tried ctrl-alt-del but the screen just goes black. Any suggestions please?
