Lost tool bar

Hello, all of a sudden the toolbar is gone.. file, edit, history 'all of that..what do I do?

Pressing the Alt key will show it up and making it stay there permanently required a settings change. Is this general or just in IE? If IE, press Alt and V to see the View menu then scroll to Toolbars and tick to show the Menubar.
