Hey guys! Since i built my pc a few months ago I have been having static sounds when i move my mouse (gets worse when I c;ick and drag on the desktop to make the semi blue boxes) but I got used to it. However, when I picked up csgo at steam the static sound is getting really bad during the game (which never happens before on any other game) and I cant hear anything or talk to anyone because they complain of the sounds as well.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

On board sound is failing maybe or shorting? Try rma?

Ive had it for a few months now doubt they will take it back for a rma and would it be worth it knowing I may be waiting a few months?

Hello,

There are too many complaints regarding the Extreme 4 and Extreme 3; Extreme 6 and Fatal1ty Killer are somewhat better. Extreme 4 is backed-up by a 3-year warranty, so try to RMA the motherboard; if the dealer refuses, send a RMA request directly to ASRock.

Before initiate the RMA request though, there are a few things to do:
- try to reduce the microphone gain (Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording -> Microphone (or Line In, whichever you are using) -> Levels -> set the gain to +10dB or even 0dB, see if it changes anything;
- try to reinstall the on-board audio using the latest audio drivers available on ASRock site;
- try to disable any Digital audio outputs, including HDMI audio;
- try to use only the rear outputs (unplug the front audio panel from the motherboard).

You are using a headset with built-in mic or a desktop speaker set + microphone combination? If the latter, move the microphone away from the speakers.

The motherboard is properly seated on its stand-offs? Verify if there are no standoff left under the chipset. Also, verify if the GPU is not putting pressure on any of the capacitors from the motherboard (the audio section from the motherboard is situated right under the GPU's output bracket).

Hi, thanks so much for all the suggestions and different things to do to improve upon the cituation. I reinstalled the driver from Asrock however they were 2 years old and disabled audio on my board afterwords. The headset I own is the turtle beach x12 and I tried a different one of the x12s and the problem stayed. How do I remove the front audio panel from the mother board? Aslo the mother board is seated on brackets however I actually had to take apart my build a week after I originally did it because my friend didn't do the step right and put them all on one side however that is fixed now! Thanks again for the help and if you can help anymore thanks!!

First, see if the problem persists when using a set of desktop speakers.

Are you sure you got the right driver? On ASRock's website, the latest audio driver available for Win 8.1 was released on 8th of april 2014. Be sure you uninstall the old driver.

There is a possibility of a broken front audio plug, hence my suggestion of using the rear audio plugs and disconnect the front audio from the motherboard (with the PC turned OFF, open the case and carefully pull out the cable from the HD_AUDIO1 header, located between the PCIe4 and PCIe5 slots).

About the standoffs: the motherboard needs 10 standoffs, but the NZXT case can accomodate more, being compatible with all ATX/mATX/mITX motherboards. Be sure there are no additional standoffs mounted under the motherboard: http://i.imgur.com/1vpootY.jpg (you don't need to take out the motherboard, just dismantle the right-side case panel and check the back of the motherboard).

I was saying about the possibility of the GPU bracket (or other part of the GPU's PCB) pushing against the capacitors from the motherboard (on this motherboard, the audio chipset and its input/output coupling capacitors is located beneath the GPU). Try to run the PC without the GPU (uninstall the GTX970, turn OFF the PC, take the GTX out and use the onboard Intel graphics chip).
