The monitor is 4K and has four inputs, DisplayPort, mDP, HDMI (MHL), USB 3.0.

According to my research for photo editing, it seems like DisplayPort is the way to go.
1.) Based on the monitor, IS DisplayPort the best option here?
2.) If yes, the motherboard on has HDMI output, could you recommend a GPU with either a DisplayPort or mDP output?

Thank you for your time.

Solution
Why not buy a motherboard with displayport connectivity.
Here is a M-ATX for less.
Specs say 4k resolution at 60hz with displayport.

Unless your cpu is , or might be a overclockable "K" you do not need a z170 motherboard.
Read specs carefully, HDMI will usually be limited to 4k at 24hz.
If you move windows around, you will appreciate 60hz.

If you use photoshop, performance can be improved with a discrete nvidia card with many CUDA cores.
A GTX950 will have displayport output and 768 CUDA cores:

Corsair CX is not considered as a reliable psu.
Tier 4 on this list...

You can do better.
Seasonic is always good.
This 520w S12II is very good.

Do not pay more for modular, there is always a place to store unused power leads.
