[SOLVED] Low end GPU for optiplex 390

Hey, I’m looking for a low end and low profile GPU for an optiplex 390 (DT). I upgraded one of these already and it’s perfect for what i want.

However, I upgraded that one with an MSI GT720 1gb but I can’t find another one anywhere for a reasonable price. Is there a good alternative low profile card you could recommend?

You could upgrade to a GTX 660 with comfort paired with that CPU.
But since the optiplex 390 only has a 240W low quality unit i'd suggest for you to upgrade your PSU aswell to a 450-500W unit.

Hmm okay thanks, i was looking for a crappy videocard at least as good as the gt720 that wouldnt require a PSU upgrade

If you really dont want to upgrade your psu, a gt 1030 would also be a solid option without the additional cost of a new psu.

It depend on your budget. maybe you use can ebay/craiglist :O But gtx 1050,1650 work fine on optiplex with 240watts PSU.

I would not recommend a 1650 with a 240w oem psu.

The 1650 has a minimum requirement of 350W. If the 240W unit was a good quality one i'd maybe recommend it but for now i really cannot second this option, really just feels unsafe.

GTX 1650 (No Power Pin) lock at 75w, similar to GTX 1050ti. The Pcie is limited to 75w from motherboard.
240w Dell PSU have 12v @ 17A. = 204 Watts.. 100% usage 95w CPU + 75w GPU = 170w. You still have alot of headroom. He will only use less than 150w when gaming.

No of course not. Manufactuers always make the recommended wattage high.
I just would not be comfortable using an old 240w unit with my new parts in it.

The optiplex 390 is quite an old pc and most likely has been used quite alot so i wouldnt compare the psu he currently has to a brand new dell psu.. The 12V rail wont hold up as well as the unit ages.

it depend where its been used..usually optiplex are office pc, they are mostly 20% load on usage for checking email, microsoft office. Believe it or not, those PSU actually last more than "gaming" corsair/thermaltake/evga psu

if the psu is dead that would be the time he would need an upgrade..or he could fix it, its either fuse or bad capacitor. but most of the time its fuse on older optiplex psu. a lot of people dont bother doing fixing their dead psu as it take too much time doing solder. but i rather spend 1$ on fuse on local store and solder it, than buying a new psu that would cost 35$. save money. older psu uses glass fuse, while new one uses poly fuse to prevent repair.. older psu are easier to repair than new psu, they want to become the next iphone, when its broken buy new one.
