So a couple weeks ago one of my amazing wonderful kids stuck the end of a headphone cord into the USB 3.0 port on top of the PC and it fried the Motherboard. I found the exact motherboard I use on eBay (ASUS Z-97 A) I installed it and I re-activated Windows 10 PRO with a new key that I bought and everything has been working great. Except video games. Games like Far Car 4 are dropping FPS and in some cases can't get above 20 FPS. So I updated the NVIDIA driver (I have a GTX 1070) and did a reboot and the games started working and playing great again! But now it's back to what it was doing before, low FPS on higher end games. I did another reboot and still not working.

I read that after replacing a MB you need to do a fresh install of Windows but this is the same exact MB so is that still the case? Is there anything else I can try WITHOUT having to re-install Windows? I'm trying desperately to not have to go that route. Thanks for any help you can give!

Solution
Reinstall intel chipset drivers and after that reinstall gpu drivers.

BTW - you probably could have skipped getting a new windows license. Just needed to use windows activation troubleshooter.

Thanks! I'll try tonight and report back if that worked.
