Hi all,

I have been struggling to get decent FPS in CS:GO and have tried everything. According to mates, my system should be getting much more FPS than it is.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz
M.B :Asrock Killer 990FX
RAM: 8GB Ripjaws
GPU: GTX 960 4GB
PSU: CX500
SSD: 128GB

I have additional cooling and run EVGA Precision to monitor temperature of my card which barely heats up. I get about 60-120 FPS. All drivers and software up to date.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Mike.

Hi Hell Raiser,

Thank you for your reply.

I am running 4:3 custom res of 1440x1080, all settings on low for better performance. Actually my monitor is only 60hz but I am busying flying myself a Benq 144hz. The problem is that the FPS is all over the place. Sometimes dropping below 60 which is detrimental for CS:GO.

Thinking of changing the MOBO and CPU to a i7 and getting another 8gb of ram.

Upgrading to Ryzen or coffee lake will of course be better. However, I would look into the root cause of this kind of low performance on your PC. This game should be able to sustain above 60 FPS at all times on your PC.

Are you using windows 10? How old is the installation? Is the game and OS both installed on the SSD?

Hi Rexper,

Gpu was running max at 40% and CPU was between 50-60%.

Would my CPU be bottle necking my GPU?

Think it is time for an upgrade anyway. Which route which you recommend?

Thanks, Mike.

Hi Hell Raiser,

Yes I would love to figure this out.

I am using win10, and both OS and CS:GO are on my SSD. Installation of both game and OS is very old. Perhaps a format will help but I am in Seychelles and don't have access to a genuine windows copy. :/

Thanks Mike.

Go to the link above and download Windows media creation kit. Run it and it will download windows 10 for you on your pen drive. Do a clean installation of the OS which formats all data on your SSD.

If you don't activate windows, there will be a watermark at the bottom right corner of your screen and you cant change wallpapers. Whether to get it activated or not is upto you. But, doing a clean installation of windows is easy.

I think I need to do get a fresh installation of windows on my SSD regardless of the upgrade. Would using the windows inactivated have any impact on performance or purely just have the water mark and the wallpaper struggle?

Thank you.

There is no performance impact. These are the only 2 things that are impacted and ar only cosmetic in nature. You will still get the updates and everything.

If your current windows 10 installation is activated, it will still be activated after you do a clean install. Just skip over the part where it says enter the product key. When the installation is done and you reach teh desktop, your windows will be automatically activated if it is activated right now.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

My windows is activated but if I can remember correctly I downloaded and it from Pirate Bay about 2 years ago and used one of their keys that were on there.

I will do the format and reload all drivers.

Currently I have OC'd my CPU by 25% I think from 3.5 to 4.25 with the default overclock settings in bios as well as my GPU but not pushing it. Didn't make any difference to be honest.
