Hello guys,

Well i got a major problem!!

My specs:

Phenom II X4 965
4 GB DDR3
SAPPHIRE HD 7870 GHz Edition OC 2GB GDDR5
700 Watt power supply cooler master 88%

Problem:

When i start some games, i have low fps, no matter if i set everything to HIGH or LOW settings.
I don't know what the problem is.
Crysis 2 runs great and Mirror's Edge runs great.
Games like: Smite and other games i get like 20 Fps.

How to fix this?

Greetings

Solution
Sooooo.. That is why the FPS are that low?

I cannot guarantee thats why you FPS is low but its very likely as the board just cannot supply the power the CPU needs under full load. I am no expert on how this works and would have thought it would cause crashes rather than poor performance. It may even be that the CPU is not allowing the GPU enough power I don't think so but I just don't know.

And when i underclock it it will all run better?

Maybe, I think likely and it will not take long to try it and see

i need to buy a new motherboard?

Thats the ideal solution but you may find it runs OK @ 3GHz and its up to you if you want to spend money for 400MHz. But considering how good your GPU is you would be best getting a new board and...
Back in the bios go to advanced then CPU options or something like that there is a setting called cool & quit if that is disabled set it to enabled. I think that is the problem if not check what temp the CPU is reaching while gaming by leaving HWMonitor open in the background while gaming &/or setting the bios to default settings then just make the changes that fixed the problem. BTW you want the CPU to stay under 60C after running at 100% for a while.

What does the CPU voltage read in both the bios and HWMonitor? If this is to high it wil cause the CPU to overheat also what is the CPU speed set to did you leave it at 2.6GHz or is it higher? The CPU should be fine @ 3.4GHz with 1.35V maybe lower and @ 2.6GHz maybe 1.2V or even lower. If the voltage is higher try setting it manually to 1.3V in the bios the setting should be near the multiplier one and is most likely currently set to auto. If you want to use lower than 1.3V you should really check stability with prime 95 or intel burn test (doesn't matter that its an AMD CPU) to make sure it doesn't crash.
Also I assume you are using the stock cooler please confirm.

You could try setting it to 1.2V to loose a few degrees if you do run Prime 95 for 2 hours+ to check its stable and what max temp you get (it should peak in 1st 10 mins). Otherwise you need to improve cooling either with a better CPU cooler or case fans.

I did put it to 1.2V, and it runs great now, games run FANTASTIC!

Thank you very much simon 😀
But when i get my money from work i will get a new motherboard.
What mother board do you recommend me?

It depends what you want from it. If you just want it to run the processor at the correct speed then just get the cheapest that supports 125W CPUs if you want to upgrade the CPU in future get one that supports AM3+ CPUs preferably the full range of them. If you want to run 2 graphics cards in future look for one that has 2 PCIE slots that both run at 8X preferably 16X. If you want to overclock your CPU to get the most from your 7870 get a Hyper 212 EVO aswell as long at it will fit in your case.
