Hi guys.

Ive got a RTX 3080 MSI VENTUS 10GB on my system alongside Ryzen 7 2700x, 750W ROG STRIX GOLD PSU, and 16gb ram.

I upgraded from a RTX 2060. Now im getting dissapointing performance.
The problem is that it maxes out with 80-110 fps in GTA V, warzone and Rdr 2 around 80 fps. All on ultra. That is RTX 2080 performance, or less?

My expected fps was 150-200, especially on warzone. Youtube gameplays with same gpu shows avarage 160 fps.

x I've got 2 cables from PSU into the GPU. (16 pins, 8 pins per cable)

x Ive done a clean install. (DDU)

x Latest win 10/ gpu drivers

x GPU load on 80-90%, CPU on 40-70% on avarage

x Freesync is off

x Performance mode in Nvidia settings

x Overclocked CPU, peaking at 4,1Ghz

x Avarage GPU temperature under load: 70 C

My theory is that one of the PSU-PCI-E cables was missing a pin on one end (PSU end). I dont know if thats standard or faulty cable.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Solution
Sorry for being unclear. 95-97% GPU usage on more intensive games, such as rdr2. Less intensive games the GPU usage stays on 60-80% on avarage. The CPU (8 cores) rarely go over 60% usage.

Now, I'd consider purchasing a newer model of the ryzen processors if this would solve my problem. And yes, as youre saying I dont Think the GPU is bottlenecking a older ryzen 7 2700x processor.

My older RTX 2060s almost get the same framerates as the newer RTX 3080 and thats just absurd. (25 fps difference on avarage) on the same settings and resolution.

For instance Warzone 70 fps, ultra, 3440x1440 (RTX 2060s)
Warzone 100 fps, ultra, 3440x1440 (RTX 3080)

Do this mean the CPU is the cause of the bottleneck? If so, ill purchase a ryzen7 3700x...

Oh well. I do reach up to 95-97% usage sometimes. I dont know if the fps increase compared to new cpu cost is actually worth it. But yes it might be a slight bottleneck. Sad.

You're running in 21:9, from what I saw - the likes of jackfrags ran at around 150fps on QHD. Sounds like you should be getting slightly more, but likely not as much as you expect due to weaker CPU and increased res.

Well, there's your problem right there: if you are hitting anywhere near 100% utilization on your CPU, its bottlenecking your GPU and holding back your fps.

Your RTX 3080 is being held back by the relatively low clock speeds of your Ryzen 2700.

If I were you and I didn't want the expense of switching motherboards, I'd buy a Ryzen 3800 XT, which has higher boost clocks.

If money wasn't an issue (which it always is lol) you should switch to an Intel Z490 motherboard with an i5-10600k or an i7-10700k. Both have the ability to run at 5 GHz + on all cores when overclocked. AMD CPUs provide good value and are great for low/mid fps gaming, but Intel is still the king of high frame rate gaming. If you want high frame rates, your Ryzen system (regardless of the CPU in it) will continue to bottleneck your RTX 3080. I'm not saying it's good value, I'm saying its what you need if you want to get the most out of your 3080.

95-95% usage on what? If you are getting that on the CPU, you have a problem with something eating CPU processing cycles. Games will almost never use more than 70% of a CPU and it goes lower the more cores/threads the CPU has. 95-100% GPU usage means the GPU is the bottleneck, but that is extremely unlike with an RTX 3080.

If it helps, I can snap some Pictures that present CPU and GPU usage during a gameplay.

Again, im really novice when it comes to PC Components and performance issues.

Your Ryzen 7 2700X is what is holding you back right now. The only thing that will increase your fps with the new GPU is a faster CPU and maybe faster ram to go with it. Definitely CPU first, either Ryzen 3000 or wait 1-2 months for Ryzen 4000 assuming you have a B/X 400/500 series to use it.

I have the same issue. upgraded from 2080 super to 3080 with r5 3600 and getting almost the same FPS even on 1080p settings.

Tried reinstalling the driver same thing. Any fix for this?

Lower resolution in the case of CPU bottlenecking will actually hurt you, the CPU bottlenecks more the lower your resolution is, if
you get fully bottlenecked at 1440p you won't see a huge difference between 1080p and 1440p.

This is why everyone says the 3080 is totally overkill for certain low resolutions.

There is no real fix except to avoid the bottleneck by upgrading CPU (These GPUs bottleneck slightly at 1440p even on an OC'd Intel 10900) or upgrade to a 4k screen but I'd definitely go for the CPU upgrade. I'm using an old Intel 6700k while waiting for the new AMD CPUs and because of my bottleneck the FPS difference between 4k and 1440p is 10 FPS ish on maxed out RDR2.

Reinstalling the driver is not going to fix your problem; your problem is with your hardware.

A Ryzen 3600 is not nearly a powerful enough CPU for the refresh rates you expect at 1080p from a RTX 3080. You need a CPU with more cores and higher clock speeds (higher clock speeds are what drive higher frame rates). Unless you are willing to switch to an Intel platform (which will give the biggest improvement) your best bet would be a Ryzen 3800 XT which has a much higher max boost clock of 4.7 GHz.

I wanted to catch you hopefully before you took advice in here and bought a new cpu. There is no bottleneck that severe.

I have a Ryzen 3800x and I and many others are suffering from very low frames and usage in a lot of games. I'm dealing with this too.

GPU usage never hits 100 and the frames are literally 100 less than benchmarks. This isn't a bottleneck problem.

Something is wrong wrong. I have no solution but this issue is not solved and hope you have since found your solution.

I have this CPU and suffer from this very same issue. It is a wide spread issue. The 3600 shouldn't be 100 less frames than benchs.

Hi guys i have the same issue, i have ryzen 7 3700x with msi ventus 3080 oc, and ram on 3200 Mhz and in CoD warzone i am unable to get more than 110 fps on average. The same framerate is when i try it on 1080p and on 1400p. I tried other games and i have around 60-70 frames less then any youtube video with the same configuration. And i tried reinstailing drivers i updated bios but with no results

I’d consider upgrading that cpu, not a good match for a 3080

warzone seems to have issues on the 30 series if you explore forums

Have You Figured It Out ?

I have also have a 3700x paired with Zotac 3080 OC, facing low fps in many games. Also, certain games, starts with higher fps and than tank down slowly as gameplay progresses.

Same here guys...

Aorus Elite B550
16GB ram 2x8gb 3200mhz (XMP profile)
MSI RTX 3080 Ventus OC
Ryzen 7 3700X
Sentey 750W 80+

  • Drivers installed with DDU
  • Latest Nvidia drivers
  • Performance mode on nvidia panel

Playing on 1080P I can't get more than 120fps on warzone (without ray tracing and shadows), 50-60 fps on Cyperpunk (ultra with ray tracing) 60-80 (ultra without ray tracing).
CPU usage is always between 30 and 50%. GPU usage can't get over 80%

This is very sad and there is something very very wrong.

I am running into the same issue here . Fresh build on fresh OS with similar parts. FPS in PUBG @ 1440p won't go any higher than 100 fps. Setting to very low settings does not give any FPS gains. From researching this a bunch, the issue seems to be related to Nvidia drivers not being optimized for certain games causing performance loss. I know from watching Youtube Benchmark videos with an identical system, I should be getting 150+ FPS in PUBG no problem with what I have.

@1440p
Other games like CSGO and Overwatch run perfectly fine 200-400 fps
COD WZ plays decent, getting 100-150 fps
COD Cold War. Avg fps seems to be around 100 and in Zombies drops to 60-70 fps
Insurgency Sandstorm - similar situation to PUBG, only getting 90-100 fps

UserBenchmarks: Game 153%, Desk 107%, Work 142%
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X - 101.4%
GPU: ASUS DUAL Nvidia RTX 3070 - 150.6%
SSD: WD Black SN750 NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB (2019) - 304.1%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB - 311.7%
SSD: WDC WDS200T2B0A-00SM50 2TB - 100.5%
RAM: G.SKILL F4 DDR4 3600 C14 2x8GB - 103.6%
MBD: Asus ROG STRIX X570-I GAMING

Hoping Nvidia's next driver update will address and fix this. Or possibly PeetuB may be able to help?
