Low Performance on Radeon HD 7970

I recently bought a power colour HD 7970 and I am not getting much of a performance improvement compared to the gtx 750, depending on the game. For example, on BioShock infinite, I get 100+ fps maxed out and bo3 runs above 60fps on ultra. However, on games like gta 5 and crysis 3, my fps is around 40, but sometimes dips into the 20s. It's annoying. The stupid thing is, on gta v, when I lower my settings to literally as low as they go, my fps barely improves, maybe by about 5. I think this is because I'm getting a CPU bottleneck, with my AMD A10 7870K. I use Coolermaster Hyper212x, and wonder if you could help me to get higher frames. (I'm fine with games looking bad, I just want 60fps). Also, I am definitely using the latest drivers and only have 1 graphics driver on my PC, so that isn't the problem.

Yeah 20c is only about 68F, so that's not the problem. If you're not sure if you did the OC properly, just Google for a guide on how to OC an A10 7870K.

Here's an OC guide that achieved 4.7GHz at 1.48 volts.

Keep in mind however that CPUs vary in how much they can be OCed. Plus with the cooler you're using you may want to limit voltage to 1.4.

If all you did to attain 4.2GHz was use the BIOS preset though, you should be able to go higher with a manual tweak.

It's most likely your CPU. I have a 7970 and can run GTA V getting a solid 60 FPS on the in game benchmark with these settings.

If you run MSI Afterburner while playing with it set to show data onscreen, you'll probably see your CPU at very high usage, with the GPU much lower usage. This means the GPU is waiting for the CPU to send it rendering data.

In GTA V, try lowering res as well.

1680x1050 or 1280x1024, lower res gives absolutely no performance decrease, funnily enough, super sampling doesn't seem to lower frame rate either. Can the 212 evo handle 4.5, as my bios won't let me do more than 4.2 and I don't know any software to help.

That depends on ambient temps. If you live in a hot climate and have no AC, you may want to limit it to 4.2GHz.

If you DON'T live in a hot climate, or have AC, you may be doing the OC wrong. Hyper 212 is not the best cooler, but it's really not too bad.

I live in Britain and it's usually around 10 degrees here, however as its summer it's about 20 degrees where I am. What should I do my PC to, also, what should I use to oc
