Question lower fps when i display scale

in fortnite im trying to use a custom resolution. ive heard that when you display scale your imput delay is lowered than GPU scaling but when i display scale my frames are significantly lower. any ideas? my specs are

2060 Super
I7 5820k
16 gb ram 3200mhz
