I am looking to build a new Desktop, my desktop to older then 10 years (components), so I am looking to build a new desktop. I would like to start with a i9 CPU (14th), looks like the K version is under $500.

I realize that this post is double questioned, but I would be looking to purchase one i9 within the next month (holiday sales), a MOBO and RAM, probably 50% ram, I would like to run 64GB.

I was considering the 4090, but then I saw the price, so I would like to know which GPU would be the lowest I can run along side the i9, and later (maybe) the 4090 or the new 5000 series. Unless the price drop significantly on the 4090. I am looking purchase and build this desktop, month by month.

I am looking to run VMs on this machine as well as gaming, thus the 64GB.

Any suggestions??

i9??

GPU?

Just use the intergrated graphics of the i9.

Buy all the RAM at the same time as a pair of 2x32GB. RAM that's bought seperate from each other are not guaranteed to work together properly. It might or might not have a stable operation.

Good Suggestion on the RAM, I understand that integrated graphics for the VMs would be good, but as far as gaming??

4060? 4070? at the minimum. I am looking forward to playing Forever Winter, but my laptop runs a 2060, even at low setting, I get lag, recommended is a 3080ti or super. But I think that would be to slow to run with the i9.

Thanks for your comment.

Depends on the monitor resolution, and games.

I would not be updating my monitor, both run at 1920X1080, nothing major. 32in and 24in, ASUS monitors.

Games?? All of them!, but seriously, most updated games, I would expect to keep this desktop for minimum of 5+ years, as I know things change quickly. Currently, running a 970 with a 4670K, and I run some of the most recent games, from about a 3 years ago. Like FC6, no major FPS issues Heck, can run Dead Island 2, pretty good. Main reason for the upgrade is 1. Graphics, and 2. Current PC is not upgradeable to Windows 11.

My solution for some game requirements was to just buy a laptop, AW 17 R4 with 1060 about 7 years ago and about 3 years ago was AW 16 with a 2060.
