Please keep it to 1 thread
I have an msi mpg 490 and a 10900k, the 970 samsung m.2 is not recognized in bios or windows.
In the manual for the mobo it says something about the top m.2 slot supporting 11th gen cpu.
Sitting here about to take the gpu out so i can reach the m.2 and move it into the bottom slot. Im assuming this should correct it? Figured id ask in here first before i start taking things apart.
The m.2 is not located anywhere currently. Ive checked bios. Checked disk manager and all that etc.
My regular sata ssd should not be conflicting with this, i originally just had the m.2 in to install windows on and it was not recognized so i ended up installing windows on the ssd

Solution
Then probably M.2 drive is not properly installed.
When M.2 drive is properly installed, gold contacts on the drive should not be visible at all.

What mobo do you have?
Mpg 490 is unknown.

on some newer motherboards with 2 m.2 ssd slots, the ssd drive installed in the slot (slot 1) closest to the cpu is controlled by the cpu, while slot 2 is controlled by the motherboards chipset, also slot 1 can be for a pcie Gen 4 or 3 ssds while i think slot 2 only supports pcie gen 3 ssds, also the driver protocol nvme of a nvme m.2 ssd cannot support a sata m.2 ssd that's, of m.2 drives, there's either a sata or nvme drive, do you have the specs on that m.2 ssd drive you have? is it a sata m.2 or a nvme m.2

Recently built a new computer, all is good except this M.2 SSD. It is not recognized anywhere

Intel i9 10900k

MSI MPG Z490 GAMING PLUS ATX LGA1200 Motherboard

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME solid state drive

MSI RTX 3070 ti gaming x trio

the M.2 is installed into the top slot, under the FROZR heat sink, it seems to be seated correctly, screw is lined up perfectly etc.
It isnt being recognized in the bios or in windows. I have read quite a few threads on this exact issue, though i have yet to find a solution.
i would prefer to exhaust all options before i attempt to try the 2ND M.2 slot. The GPU is in the way, and the mounting bracket i screwed underneath the GPU was a royal pain in the ass to line up alone with my 2 hands.
I have also read the bottom slot is much slower so i would just prefer not to use this at the moment.
using OEM bios. UEFI. ACHI enabled.
Thanks in advance for anyone who may be able to assist me.

EDIT i just noticed this thread was written under the "Memory" forum, Not the "Storage" forum. if an Admin can delete this thread i would appreciate it, i am going to re post this under the section it belongs.
Thanks

No idea what bios options you have but look through the options for things about the m.2.

After installing chipset drivers
Did device with yellow exclamation disappear in Device Manager?
Did you install NVME drivers successfully after this?
Do you have NVME controller device listed under Storage Controllers in Device Manager?

BTW - what version of windows is this? Not windows 7 ?

the entire "other devices" tab has vanished after the chipset driver, the NVME driver install still says express device not connected, running windows 10

Bumping this to let you, or anyone else know. tonight i just decided to take off the frozr shield and the m.2 was infact not pushed in enough... like you said, i noticed a tiny bit of gold contacts. I gave it a nice firm push at at 30 degree angle and pop. Gone went the contacts and the computer now detects it.
Thanks for all the help. Greatly appreciate it.
