Hi Guys,

having a lot of trouble trying to install an m.2 nvme ssd, so I currently have it cloned so windows is installed and everything and it shows up as a drive in my file explorer, but I cannot boot into it? It says (windows boot manager) before both my old hdd and new ssd, but every time I try boot into it I get either a inaccessible boot device error or reboot and select proper device?

I followed all the instructions for trying to boot of an m.2 on youtube videos and google but can’t seem to get it working so any help is great!

my full specs are

i9-9900k
Gtx 1050ti
Msi b365m pro vdh
16gm ram
2 hdd
1 m.2 intel 256gb ssd (this is the one im trying to install)

Hope someone can help please

Thanks in advance

Solution
and yes, been wanting to fully reinstall new os and drivers for a few months and now have a reason to :)
OK, then....do that instead of the clone operation.

Don't "clean up" anything yet.

What are you referring to with the "2.7TB" ?

c drive just had necessities installed onto it

and e drive is my new m.2

(not sure if my last reply posted so sorry if deja vu hits)

C drive only has windows and important stuff installed (also clueless as to how this is 400gb)
D drive (not installed) is 2.7 tb which has all my games installed onto
E drive (new m.2 nvme drive) I want to install windows and steam to this drive

hope this clears things up a bit, Im running on no sleep so all my replys are a bit all over the place my bad 🙁

"no sleep" is not the time or physical condition to be doing this. Mistakes happen.

But....

It seems your C drive only has about 102GB consumed space.
That should clone nicely into the new Samsung.

Read the steps I posted above.
Then read them again....

Then do them, exactly like it says.

aha along with the sleep, Ive been looking at it wrong its 424 gb free of 464 gb fml
I will go ahead with the steps above and let you know how it goes!!!

ok great, also after the clone is done I disconnect my c drive, load up bios and boot from the m.2 right? (this means the m.2 is the only drive installed?)
Yes.
At the end of the clone process, you MUST power off, disconnect the old drive, and power up with only the new drive connected.

Actually SDM does not give you an option. It WILL power off after some 20 seconds at the completion of the clone process.
This is when you disconnect the old drive.

no unfortunately not, do I have to pay for it? Or can I get one free from their site for a boot?
If you have a blank flash drive of 8GB or larger, and a working PC, you can make your own.
Emphasize on the blank...whatever is on it WILL be wiped out.

Once you create this, we can use it to test the actual operability of your system and this new drive.
Or, you can just do a fresh install on the new drive, as you indicated earlier.

And the first part of here:

Please verify if you want to do a fresh install?
Given all the previous comments, this is probably the best way forward.

by fresh install does that just mean rather than clone, to set up the ssd as if brand new? if so then yes, am currently downloading as we speak
