On my previous motherboard a MSI X299 SLI Plus I had a Sabrent 1TB Rocket 4.0 Gen4 PCIe in the M.2_1 position and a Samsung 1TB 970 EVO Plus in the M.2_2 position. The SLI Plus had a limitation with M.2_1 & M.2_1 populated it shared Sata 58. I don't see any limitations with the ASUS board, did I miss them?

I am now using an I9-9980XE which has 44 lanes, 18 cores and 36 threads, on an ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe II, does matter which of the M.2 positions the boot SSD is in? I know I can select boot order in the BIOS.

Solution
Your board M.2 slots does not share lanes with SATA port so it's not like on the MSI board.

The 3 M.2 slots on your board are all x4 PCIe 3.0. Use the one closest to the CPU anyway.

Nemesia , I do appreciate your response, thank you.

I have not built a PC in about 10 years and things have changed a tad bit.
