Hi all,
I have an m.2 gen3 with my OS on it. I installed a m.2 gen4 as a secondary drive. My question is will i be able to use the new drives faster speed running games and apps off it? or should i transfer OS to the new drive?
Yes, just use the new drive to store applications and games. You'll notice very little difference in day-to-day operation if you transfer the OS to the new drive.
However...If very bored, you could clone (or migrate, depending on manufacturer of SSDs)the install over to the newer one, ensuring it was in a PCI-e Gen4 capable slot...; this might shave off a full 1/4 second from your boot time! (Certainly, it's not as if Gen3 SSDs at 3500 MB/sec were slow boot devices...)
