[SOLVED] M.2 SSD for storage only? (not boot drive)

Im looking to upgrade my old 1TB Hdd to something faster like an M.2. I currently have a regular 2.5" 120 GB ssd for my boot drive.

I'm just wondering if I can simply install the m. 2 drive and just use it for storage? I have read/been told that you should use the m.2 as your boot drive, however im not sure if this is a rule rather than a recommendation.

Yes you can use the m.2 just for storage.
Install it then partition and format.

Depending on your motherboard, some SATA ports may get disabled, after you install M.2 drive.
So - your HDD or SSD may need to be moved to a different SATA port afterwards.

Anyway - consult user manual of your motherboard.
