Question m.2 ssd wont work

i have an asus z170-e and i recently bought an m.2 ssd (samsung evo 970 250gb)
i believe the drive is supposed to be plug and play but it's not showing up on my bios and on my drives list. help please

turns out it picks it up on disk management but i cant use it. says 232.88gb unallocated

It should be detected by the bios if windows detected it.
Its unallocated because you need to format it. Right click on it in disk management and select format.

i right clicked it, didn't come up, also initialize didn't show
