M.2 vs SSD?

Fair call.

The guys above cover pretty much the main differences anywho. I would add that whether or not you should get an M.2 drive is going to depend on what other components you have/are getting in your rig, and of course your budget.

@Nonscrub - were you thinking of buying one, or just looking for more info?

The problem is not that somebody doesn't want to help, but that this forum (and google) already has the information and it is very easy to find. It is part of the forum rules that you look up older threads if they cover your question before posting the same one again and again. This forum even suggests topics that may help you and just for the fun of it I typed the Title of this Thread and the Forum suggested this thread:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2607731/whats-difference-ssd-ssd.html?xtor=EREC-8889

And it covers almost exactly the same question.

Also, for the record, I don't think M.2 devices are automatically faster. Pretty sure you can find M.2 devices that still use the SATA interface, which would perform essentially the same as traditional SSDs. In order for the SSD to be faster, it needs to use PCIe.

For the same price, there isn't much reason to prefer the M.2. I think the biggest advantage would be for laptops or very small form factor PCs, where the smaller form factor could be handy.
