Hi, I would like some help in this matter. Here are the specs:
Asus M5A99X Evo
CPU - Fx-8120 black edition
RAM -Corsair vengeance 4GBs x2 (8 GBs at 1333 MHz)
GPU - R7 260X 2GD5 OC MSI
PSU - Corsair GS600w
Cpu cooler- CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Evo
I've had this system for years now and it was working fine. Yesterday I decided to overclock the CPU so i could get better fps on an emulator. First I decided to use the auto OC settings and it overclocked my CPU at 3.9GHz. It was alright, it passed several stress tests without failure on an acceptable temperature (around 60º C). Since i had overclocked my CPU before, i decided to go at 4.1GHz then I ran OCCT. After 10 minutes the temperature suddenly went to 82º C (yeah) and the motherboard shut off. This wasn't the first time this has happened to me, so i didn't mind it and went to sleep. After i woke up I decided to turn on the PC, and then after 10 seconds, it shut off. I noticed that the MB shuts off exactly at the moment the CPU led turns red. I've cleared the CMOS, reseat the GPU, tested each slot of memory, and all to no avail. I also verified the cables, fans are working normally, but the PC continues to shut off. No apparent shorts either.
Now I am thinking it might be the CPU, but then I've decided to test the memory pressing the MemOK button on the MB, and after no posting whatsoever it finally booted, and i was able to access the bios. However, it will not boot to the OS unless i specifically force boot through the bios on the HDD. After getting on the OS i did a stress test on the CPU, it passed but it was not showing the correct values of the CPU.
And of course, the PC will only post if i press the MemOk button on the MB.
Now i have no idea whatsoever of what might be the fault. If the psu wasn't working properly it wouldn't work when I press the MemOk button. The CPU wouldn't pass the stress test. Am thinking of running memtest after force booting through the bios by pressing the MemOK button.
What do you guys think? Did I possibly fried my CPU? Am scared of flashing the bios and bricking my MB.
What do I do?
