[SOLVED] MAC PRO 2013 Gaming?

Hey guys, I want a gaming machine so I was gonna go with the late 27 inch iMac. But then the mac pro got announced. I asked my friend if the mac pro is good for gaming but he said no because it is using workstation graphic cards. Could someone please elaborate on that. Will the mac pro be able to game or not? I want it to run BF4 on ultra! if the not the mac pro, do you think the iMac will get updated with the 780M (X) if so when? thank you guys!

Good luck playing battlefield on a mac. Most games are not made for macs. Battlefield included. As in it will not even open the installer. If you want to game on a computer it has to be a PC, it has very little to do with what GPU they have. The games are made for PC. Quite honestly when I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be a troll post.

I have a Mac Pro 2008 3,1 8-core and have 10gb of ram with a new GTX 680 Mac Edition and with Bootcamp, I can play BF4 on Ultra with 40-60 fps. So although this is an expensive route, when you need a great workstation for design but occasionally like to play up to date games with great graphics, Macs are still a great solution. I do motion graphics for a living so I prefer having a mac.

Well the 680mx is a little bit slower than a 660 (non ti) and its pushing a 1440p display. They used two 7990's in crossfire for the BF4 demo.

Did you read the original post? We are talking about a mac. BF4 is console and PC only, as are most games. Also, you are wrong. They used a single 7990.

Bootcamp DiaSin.... Bootcamp. Look it up.

You can run windows on the imac, but im not sure if u can play "pc" games on the imac running windows... srry for my bad english. Im from norway

What is it with all the Mac hate here??? Macs are very capable gaming machines under Windows 7/8.1 with bootcamp. The new 2013 Mac Pro is a powerful monster of a machine which CAN and DOES work well as a gaming machine. So if you want a powerful workstation that can also boot into Windows 8.1 for some gaming fun then it makes sense. One box for both. If you are a hard core gamer, a dedicated gaming PC would make more sense. It really depends on your intended primary usage of the hardware.
