Hi guys,
I found a Mac Pro (2006-2008 ish) on eBay for $500 AUD. It has 8GB RAM, 2x Dual Core Xeon E5160 @ 3.0 GHz (so 4 cores in total), an ATI Radeon x1900 512MB GPU, and a 320GB HD. I was going to build a gaming pc for $970 ish (FX-6300, R9 270X, 8GB RAM etc), but i saw this. I have always been a mac user, and loving it, but they are not really much good for anything gaming besides Minecraft. What would this be like for gaming if i ran windows 8.1 in bootcamp/parallels etc ? Im sure it would be good for video editing (youtube etc) but gaming i dunno. Thanks for any help!
BTW the item expires in 9 days but it is a buy it now item.

Solution
Would be pretty bad for gaming tbo.
If you can't afford the $970 for a new PC, maybe look at a 2nd hand pc.

Mac's are great for lots of things, gaming is certainly not one of them.

I do very much like the idea of having two operating systems, as i am used to and like mac a lot. However as you said, macs are bad gamers, and yeah i will look at the second hand market. Thanks for the help and thanks for not being rude to macs, cos it seems everyone on the internet hates them 🙁 😛

NP.

I use both and love them each for different reasons.
Right now on a 27" iMac. I could never go back to the variability of PC's and windows for work.

For games, Mac's perform worse for 2 main reasons.
-Lower hardware specs are needed for OSX, so most macs are underpowered in comparison. Yet for work my 'laptop spec' 5 year old iMac feels faster than my quad core water-cooled beast.
-Game developers put less effort into mac games, meaning even on the same machine, you'll get more frames on windows.

You could go the other way and do Hackintosh.
A PC with the right hardware will be able to run OSX and Windows. Best of both worlds.
