Hi all,

I have a Macbook 15'' 2017. I want an external display, of 27'', and as I'm used to the retina display, and as I need quality —I'm a frontend developer/designer— I'm considering 4K.

My question is: does it worths a 27'' 4K in a macbook?

I ask because 4k in a 27'' will display smaller, so scaling will be needed. And with scaling, the quality is not very good: https://bjango.com/articles/macexternaldisplays/

Whats your opinion?

Solution
If your Mac can output 4K to an external monitor, you don't have to worry about scaling making the item not look as good. The resolution should be native.

Hi @gasaraki !

Yes, a Macbook 15'' 2017 can output 4K, but in a 27'' monitor the content is so small, that scaling is needed wasting the quality of the image. That means that this will not be native resolution. That's why I ask: does it 4K worths for a 4K monitor with a Macbook?
