Actually, I am posting this for my mom. She is 80 and over the last couple of years has really gotten quite good with using a computer. She pays bills online, checks email, uses the word processor, prints wirelessly, and uses Facebook.

She has been using a MacBook Pro for about 3 years. Everything has worked very well until about 6 months ago. Some workers were working on utilities on the street outside her house and accidently "cut"? a line, or did something that "messed up" her internet connection. She let them know, they fixed it, but then the problems started with her MacBook .

Now, her MacBook gets hung-up, stuck, frozen after about 6 minutes of running. It works everywhere else, like my house, the Apple Store, the U-Break It We Fix It store, etc... It just gets stuck at her house. I gets stuck when it is connected to the internet and when it is not connected to the internet. It gets stuck in two different rooms of the house.

Her iPad and iPhone work fine in her house. Other laptops and MacBooks work at her house.

No one seems to have a clue, so I told her I would turn to the best online forum I know.

Please help.

Sounds like she has more electronics than I do! :D

Can you be more specific. When stuck-frozen blah-blah what exactly happens? Message? BeachBall? For how long? What is she doing when this happens? Mouse still moves? How often? what does she do to get out of the frozen state?

Ha! Yeah, we try to keep her up-to-date :)

Well, when using the MacBook at her house it eventually freezes with the beach ball going around and around. We can still move the beach ball around but we can't click on anything and none of the keys work. The only thing we can do is do is hold in the power button to force it to shut down.

It works fine at my house and it was working fine at the U Break It We Fix It store and at the Apple Store.

Someone on the Apple support forums taught me how to find the log entries in the Console app. I have been trying to find out what shows up before it crashes/freezes. So far, these are the entries I have been seeing just before it stops working...

My guess is that her computer is having trouble communicating with her HP printer. So, I am going to try deleting all the HP stuff and see if that helps.

Any other suggestions or input would be much appreciated.
