magic driver crap

First off ATI does have a damn good driver team CS. Its improved alot and they are using WHQL to benifit them much better then Nvidia is.

Just that Nvidia doesn't see a need to make WHQL dirvers on a monthly basis, like ATI is doing, because Nvdia has less issues with bugs in the past. It costs money to submit for WHQL approval.

Yeah cause most of the stuff I talk about is a bit over your head CS. Go back to school and talk to me when you finsih some Calc classes. I will give you a good trashing if you start flaming me again.

man cut the crap. If u want us to respect u and believe all this. Post screenshots, post other links of professional people that support all ur info. go post ur MIT PHd cert while you are at it. You would so get owned at beyond 3D

I really would like to but I can't the shots we have right now look great but not the best. I don't want to let down the rest of my team by letting these shots out to public. Hmm I just sent them to CS, ask him to forward them to you?

Actaully CS if you can post them up and take them down after a day that would be ok?

have you noticed how the 12 pipeline version of the R420 performs the same as the 16 pipeline version?
I don't think this is a driver issue, it's just common sense. Seriouslly, THINK about it. Just THINK! *blink* *blink*

When you smoke 16 bongs, errr... have 16 water pipes, versus 12 pipes, aren't YOU slower too!?! That's why they have to clock the XT so much faster, to make up for that obviously drawback.

Now, if they simply had a 2 pipe design and really just vapor-ware-ized their $hit, then they'd get a much more efficient use of their stash, errrrr chips. MMmmm chips, gotta go home and get chips!

Bye, TBC!

your damn right, i already had decided to vote Green this time. seriously, environmental issues should be at the very top of our governments agenda, and these guys have my support

I voted GREEN in the last two elections for one reason. To support the idea of a voice that goes against the mainstream. Yeah I'm more conservative than most of their supporters, but I would love to see just one Green Party member get in just to make people stop and THINK for one second about the future, even if it's one lone member, it's better than the automatons we have right now. The NDP are ignorant and easily bend to the will of the labour unions even if it does mean selling out the future.

I don't think they will win, but damn I would love to see just one of them there to make sure the issues are thoroughly thought through (three words with th, scary! wink). Also if they get enough support maybe people will see their agenda as a way of gaining support that they are missing and MAYBE we will see some of that come out in policy making.

And no I'm not making fun of you, I thought you'd appreciate that analogy. I'm not sure if there is hidden/unexploited aspects to the XT's design, but as it hasn't been explored as to whether it's a CPU limiting thing or what, I really couldn't comment intelligently on it, so I decided to comment incoherently, which I thought I could do a passable job with.

Man, seriously you're like getting paranoid. Cut back when you think the world is against you, or maybe if you're some people here, maybe the world IS against you and you should smoke more.

Anywhoo, really gotta go home now.

forgot to answer this one phail, yes Displacment maps are actaully better looking then normal maps.

Unreal 3 uses parrallex displacement mapping. The next best thing to true displamcment.

Unlike normal maps discplacemnt maps aren't compressed with DXTC so they retain all of thier deaials.

Well parrallax displamcent mapping is slower the normal mapping thats why it isn't recommended for lower end cards. (without optimizing it much it has to use 5 or 6 textures, it still needs the normal map for light calculations, with proper optimization we can remove the normal map, but by doing so the quality of the images aren't as good). Dx9c with looping and branching there is actaully a speed increase.

Now with tesselation and true displacement there is an automatic 20% performance hit when there is a texture look up in a vertex shader (texture look up is to look up the displacement map and the vertex shader to do the displacement) Not to mention the amount of vram usage. One 256x256 displacment map takes up 32 mb of vram! Absolute killer.

The thing with tesselation is since its done by the gpu there is no bandwidth usage :). Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy,

till ya get to the vram cosumption

I just wonder if ATI isn't spending more time working on making their cards and drivers instead of just talking about what's yet to come...with a card thas is already supposed to be on the market, who cares about what's yet to come???

well I'm not expecting any major speed imporvements in the next 2 coming lines. ATi and nV might have other things up thier selves, but ATi and nV are going to Pci-e, so that right there is pretty much the next line. Now if ATi doesn't go to shaders 3.0 in 12 months there are some games tentetivly scheduled for this. That will hurt them. And of course their coustomers.

ATi did a good cost cutting messure not going to SM 3.0 but it might turn out to be a mistake.

Half Life 2 might come out with SM 3.0 but probably not, that game really doesn't need high frame rates (well at least 30) to play. But I did noticed when they used breakable polys it hurts the gpu big time. Frames go from 50 to 15 on the 9800xt.

i think a few Green MP will be elected this year hopefully :)

They got 5% of the votes last tie around, but I think with our first past the post system, we won't get any unfortunately.

Still hopefully they will influence the debate in some way.

Well, with all the talk of the nV magical drivers, here's some magic from ATI's WHQL certified, available right now on their site, drivers;

LOL!

Yep, but remember those were the 4.6 BETA drivers, so the Official ones actually LOST 7 points (you missed a drivers  ) from BETA to reality! Bastardz!

I don't want Bug Fixes, I want more Magic!

CS, when i can count the number of shader 3.0 capable retail games on one finger, then I think my statement of "almost no games use shader 3.0" is valid.

"magic drivers"

Here ya go 61.34, Exactly what I have been saying, but the fact is they still arn't using dx9c which these drivers perform better with.
