I just sent the following email to the tp-link support email address. If anyone reading has insight, please share. (Although sadly I suspect my router is just totally boned.)

I have an Archer D9 router, which had been working fine for a long time. Today it has completely failed.

I cannot connect to it, with either wifi or Ethernet. It shows a blue computer light, an orange planet light, and a blue two-arrow light. All other lights (including the power light) are dark. Power-cycling the machine does nothing except make the lights go off and on. Executing a factory reset doesn't do anything.

Any help getting the router back in a usable state would be appreciated. Please let me know if any other information or diagnostic steps would be helpful.

Routers are temperamental beasts at best, especially the mid-priced consumer ones. My guess is the power light LED just died, but of course that wouldn't stop the router working - - so something else is amiss with it.

I got so fed up with various mid-priced routers misbehaving after a while that bit the bullet and bought an expensive Billion model which attaches to the wall for maximum cooling. It's on the large side but performance and reliability can't be faulted, one of the best PC-related purchases I've ever made. Worth every penny.

It actually would have saved me money if I'd bought it first 'cos the previous four routers which all packed up within weeks must have cost me well over £240 in total, whereas the Billion was £130

You understand perfectly. :) My best guess is that the three lights that are on - blue, orange, blue, in the middle of the row of icons - represents some kind of error indication. I agree its weird to have some lights on, but not the power light.

The more I thought about it, the more it seemed clear that the router was just toast - I mean, factory reset doesn't work? So I went to Best Buy and got a new wireless router. There's no urgency now, although I'd love to know what happened if anyone is familiar with those symptoms.
