Me too, I really hope AMD can drive competition as it’s great for us customers. My biggest doubt is if they can improve driver support. To me this has a value I’m willing to pay more for. NVidia do have driver issues but they also respond quickly. Just look at the 3080 stability issue that some thought was due to capacitors. A quick driver update and that’s nearly stopped all reported issues while maintaining gaming performance.

My experience has been the opposite. Now, I've used FAR more AMD cards than Nvidia cards. That said, I've never experienced AMD (or ATI) driver issues. Nvidia, just the horribly clunky UI, and twice thus far a sort of "dead window" interface during installation. That requires force-quitting the driver installer, and trying again, which then works.

I'll admit that the net effect was a quick driver update - but it's masking a problem. The quick driver update was to keep the clock rates lower than used to be allowed, if I recall correctly. It wasn't really a driver problem in the first place - it was a hardware issue.

If you mean the driver update for 3080 the boost speeds I believe are the same, haven’t noticed a difference with mine. While benchmarks seem to suffered very slightly games didn’t. I seem to recall it was how aggressively it boosted to max speed that was changed but I may have that wrong.

Definitely seems to be one. However there are others. I’ve seen articles showing the demand for pc components has increased during the pandemic yet 2000 series sales slowed suggesting a big build up in demand as people have been building/upgrading but holding out for 3000 series. We also seem to have seen bots & scalpers impact supply at launch on a level greater than prior releases. Putting it altogether has created a perfect storm.

Well that’s my observation of what’s happened.
The resellers are merely a symptom of the lower than expected pricing though. If Nvidia felt those cards would have been competitive for even $100 more, then they would have likely charged $100 more for them. They want reviews to show their cards being price-competitive with AMD's, even if they're not readily available for purchase at those prices.

I could see people skipping the 20-series as being a reason though, as it was relatively poorly received to begin with compared to the prior generation. Despite coming late, performance of the initial lineup wasn't much of an improvement over the 10 series, and the major features Nvidia touted kind of undelivered.

... they had to slash prices on their previously planned models and overclock them to their limits...
... and have a premature release to flog as many as possible before the demand shifts to Radeon cards...

As I've understood it it's the very rapid variations in clock speed and voltage that caused stability issues. These problems were to some degree mitigated by overly robust designs for power delivery.

You would think that getting a 700 Eu card was a life and death thing for most people by how people react to it not being available right off the bat ...
True. Lots of people are over reacting because they cant play Cyberpunk 2077 at "ultra" settings on launch day. Boo hoo. I also want to play Cyberpunk, but I also need a GPU for work and my GTX 970 isnt cutting it anymore. Its not life or death but at least for me its a use case thats more than just entertainment.
