Hi,
I am running;

Tbird 900 (with fan/heatsink)
asus a7v
128 ram pc133 cl3
sblive
voodoo 3000
ibm 15gig HD
sony cd writer

The problem is that cant load my OS (WIn98 OR WinME,) onto this system i keep getting setup crashes (yes i have cleaned the cd's, brand new CD's) or some other kind of mem crash. Has anybody came across this prob..IS there some kind of unique Bios setup i need for this setup?.

could be that your CPu is overheating, also have you tried the latest bios updates ?

Hey man i dont know .. i just think i do !!

The temp stays about 39c which i think should be normal also i have read the last 50 posts or so and have come up with these quotes:

sb live card on (pci) slot 3 and you need to change the BIOS setting in order to assign an ISA IRQ to the card. Please set "IRQ5 Reserved for legacy device" to "Yes" under Advanced -> PCI configuration -> PCI/PNP IRQ Resource Exclusion in BIOS.

All Bios functions set for optimal, byte merge on, fast-write on, memory and cas drive strength set to strong, video memory cache mode set to USWC

say NO to Plug n Play OS in the A7V bios

I've had so many situations where the problem with locking up is tied to the "Power Saving" feature! I've found if you totally disable it

END QUOTES

I have one PCI card to install (sblive) which is on slot5 going to change to 3 also will make some other tweaks.(will post my findings, in case somebody else has the same prob.)

I've had horrible problems setting up my a7v, including booting up to just a black screen.

One thing I noticed is that you need to put the CDRom on the secondary controller or setup complains of a corrupt file.

I've also found out that when you boot from a floppy and Windows tries to setup on the c: drive, the drive on the ata 100 controller will never be a c: drive if you have one on the ide slot as well. You need to install with the drives on the IDE slot first then you can switch it over to the ata 100 slot after setup is complete.

You may also want to try another stick of RAM.

If you're still having problems, take the board back before the warranty is up and get your money.

i don't know about your specific problem but just some general recommendations....
remove all cards and leave just the video card
set the defaults in the bios
prey as windows loads.....
