Question Making CPU and GPU better for gaming

Hi, I'm new to pc gaming and was wondering if there was anyway to make my setup better for gaming as i don't know much about pc configuration, sorry if I'm doing things wrong as this is my first build, in advance i would like to say thank you to anyone for the help and tips as it is greatly appreciated.

My setup:
OS - Windows 10 Pro (64 bit)
Motherboard- ASUS M5A78L/USB3
CPU- Amd Fx 8350
GPU- Palit gtx 970
Ram- (2x4gb) G Skill 2400 PC3-19200 Ares series
CPU Cooler- Coolermaster Masterliquid Lite 120
PSU - 600w Forton FSP600-80EMDN
Storage - 1TB Samsung ST1000DL004
SSD - 240GB Kingston A400
120GB PNY CS900
Case - Storm P27 AVP-P27

Is this a new build?

I wouldn't build anything FX anymore. I would upgrade to a ryzen 5 1600, different board, different ram, and better PSU.
